FIU’s online Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) equips students to advance their careers by blending engineering, technology, and business courses, following a cohort-based structure to ensure a smooth path to graduation.

Our graduates acquire the essential skills to manage and lead both technical and non-technical teams in today’s diverse industries. The curriculum is designed for immediate real-world application across various sectors. Our state-of-the-art coursework covers Total Quality Management (TQM), engineering project management, and business strategies, all taught by renowned faculty. Instruction gives students an inclusive look at a vast range of industries and prepares them for a wide variety of capacities.

The online MSEM program offers both part-time and full-time options, simulating real-world business environments. Students apply engineering tools, management theories, and best practices to design and manage industrial and service systems. Students will master modern engineering management techniques while building a solid technical foundation in various engineering fields. TQM courses prepare students for Six Sigma certifications. Students are also well prepared for certifications in Project Management.

The full-time online M.S. in Engineering Management program can be completed in one year and consists of five accelerated 8-week terms. Students take 4 courses (12 credits) per semester, with two courses each 8-week term. In total, the program requires 30 credit hours (10 courses). Courses are taught by experienced full-time faculty and industry leaders.

Part Time Option (Schedule and Courses)

The part-time online M.S. in Engineering Management program takes 24 months to complete and includes eight 8-week terms and two 12-week summer terms. Students take 2 courses (6 credits) per fall and spring semester, completing one course per 8-week term and one course per summer term. The program requires a total of 30 credit hours (10 courses). Within a cohort, lockstep program, students get to start and finish the program together — allowing for peer support and ample networking opportunities.

Graduation Requirements

fiu-bme-engineer-300x250Students must have a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0 or greater. No grade below “C” will be accepted in a graduate program. In order to graduate in a given term, a student must submit an application for graduation to the Office of the Registrar by the appointed deadline. A graduate student must be enrolled the term in which he/she graduates. A student denied graduation must complete the requirements for graduation and reapply for graduation.

International Students

If you earned a bachelor degree in a country whose official language is not English, you must demonstrate English language proficiency by earning a passing score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). TOEFL required minimum score: 550 (paper-based exam) or 80 (internet-based). IELTS required minimum score: 6.5. When requesting official scores, please refer to FIU Institution code 5206. TOEFL / IELTS scores are valid for two years. View list of TOEFL/IELTS-exempt countries.
  • Official Transcripts Translation. If official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be requested for translation by an official translation agency. Both the official translation, as well as the original transcripts, must be submitted to FIU.
  • Certified Copy of Diploma if you obtained your degree at a foreign institution.
